Krystyna in Jake Heggie’s Two Remain

NYU and the Provincetown Playhouse present Jake Heggie’s opera based, in part, on the true stories of two Holocaust survivors: a Polish dissident, Krystyna Zywulska (1914-1993) and Gad Beck (1923-2012), a gay German Jew. Jardena appears as Krystyna Zywulska.
Three performances— December 13 and 14 at 8pm, and December 15 at 3pm.

Nevertheless, She Persisted III
Nevertheless, She Persisted: The last in a three-part series of music created and performed by German women at different times and in different places.
Program III: Refuge in Music: German Women Composers in the 20th Century. With the advent of the 20th century came growing acceptance of women in musical life, yet many had their lives significantly interrupted by the Nazi regime and World War II.
Together with Bethany Pietroniro, piano and Dicky Dutton, baritone, soprano and ethnomusicologist Jardena Gertler-Jaffe leads a program of music by Luise Sumpf Greger (1862-1944), Gertrude Rittmann (1908-2005) and Westchester County resident, Ruth Schonthal (1924 -2006).

Cultural icon Alma Mahler-Werfel's life intersected with some of the greatest artists of the late-19th and 20th centuries. A fascinating character, her intelligence, taste, and power (not to mention her romantic appeal) make her the subject of continuing intrigue. While her own composition career was reportedly stifled by her first husband, Gustav, Alma was entrenched in multiple artistic communities as life took her from Vienna to New York and Los Angeles. Soprano Jardena Gertler-Jaffe and pianist Erika Switzer explore her life and impact in this recital featuring works by Gustav Mahler, Berg, Schoenberg, Korngold, Britten, and Alma Mahler, herself.

Jardena creates the role of Thea Elvsted, joining the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with Saskatoon Opera, on a workshop on Danika Loren’s opera, Hedda. Simon Rivard conducts this opera based on the beloved Ibsen play.

Continuing Evolution: Yiddish Folksong Today
YIVO’s Continuing Evolution: Yiddish Folksong Today is a music festival celebrating Yiddish folksong. The festival includes premieres of contemporary classical works reimagining Yiddish folksongs; classic compositions which engage with Yiddish folksongs; little-known settings of Yiddish folksongs from YIVO’s archival collections; discussions of archival work related to the study and preservation of Yiddish folksong; and performances by contemporary artists engaged with Yiddish folksong.
Jardena will give the live premiere of Dan Shore’s Five Songs of Anna Berkowitz. The program will also include performances by tenor Max Jansen, and soprano Megan Jones and pianist Ryan MacEvoy McCullough.

and all the days were purple: Recital with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra
Jardena returns to her hometown to appear in recital with members of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. The program includes works by Golijov, Glass, Saariaho, and Krein, and the Canadian premiere of Alex Weiser’s unbelievably beautiful set “and all the days were purple - און אַלע טעג זײַנען געווען פּורפּורן”

As an Apprentice Artist at Sarasota Opera, Jardena will appear in this hour-long concert of scenes and arias. Jardena will perform a duet from Leoncavallo’s La boheme.

Bach to Back! Then on to Mozart!
Two cantatas by Bach, and two concert arias and a very spirited symphony by Mozart celebrate the vocal and instrumental marvels of the baroque and classical eras. On a program with Robin Steitz, Kameryn Lueng and Maximillian Jansen, Jardena will sing Mozart’s fiery “Bella mia fiamma, addio,” one of the most challenging of Mozart’s arias.

Continuing Evolution 2: Yiddish Folksong in Classical Music
As a part of their Sidney Krum Young Artists Concert Series, Jardena will be presenting the world premiere of a Yiddish art song at the YIVO Insititute for Jewish Research.
Together with Maximillian Jansen, Louis Tiemann, and Meg Jones, Jardena will present the digital premiere performance of five new compositions engaging with Yiddish folksongs. The new works by composers Derek David, David Ludwig, Anthony Russell, Daniel Schlosberg, and Dan Shore were commissioned by YIVO and will be presented alongside archival recordings of the folksongs that they are reimagining.
The event will premiere on Facebook and YouTube.

Wherever the Road May Lead: A Walking Recital
Together with her colleagues Louis Tiemann, Maximillian Jansen, and Diana Borshcheva, Jardena created and performed this innovative new recital to discover the beauty of the Hudson Valley and the world around you. Available as of November 27, 2020, this exciting recital will take you on a journey through your own neighborhood, accompanied by songs, poetry, and mindfulness exercises.
The recital benefits Scenic Hudson, a conservancy and advocacy group dedicated to the preservation of parks and farms along the Hudson River.

Songs from the Heart
Jardena will sing three of her favourite art songs in this uplifting program of song performed by students of the Bard Graduate Vocal Arts Program. The house’s East Porch will serve as the stage, and socially-distanced seating will be available on the lawn. Bring a mask (and something cozy to keep you warm if temperatures dip).

Beethoven 250 at Home
Jardena sings Beethoven lied in this online concert by the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. The concert is streamed live online for free as a kick off to a month long celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary.

Jardena returns to Kinderhook, NY to sing Mozart Operatic Excerpts with Concerts in the Village, conducted by David Smith, as a part of their 10th Anniversary Season.

The opera production, entitled Rest in Pieces, was conceived by renowned opera singer Stephanie Blythe, who will also direct the piece. Blythe is joined on the artistic team by Maestro James Bagwell, who will conduct the production accompanied by the award-winning ensemble The Orchestra Now. This innovative work of devised theatre examines opera’s role in the 21st century, and will feature beloved favourites from the operatic repertoire by Mozart, Strauss, Bizet, Copland, and Puccini.
